STAR EVENTS

FCCLA STAR Events in a NUTSHELL

1

CONSIDER

Consider what ideas interest you.  You can choose to talk about issues, commumity services, your passions, nearly anything!  Make sure you can sell your topic to the judges.

THESE ARE SOME OF OUR PROJECTS

STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition.  So, STAR Events are projects that students create and compete with at the district, state, and national level.  You can make a STAR Event on almost anything.  Also, doing well in STAR Events and getting to nationals can look very good on college applications.

STAR Events are extremely versatile.  There are 31 different catagories of STAR Events this year, each with unique rules and expectations.  Every event, however, requires participants to write and give a speech (varying in length) and create some sort of display to present to three judges. Most projects can compete at distict level with distict judges.  From there, if your project qualifies, you can compete at state level with three new judges.  And if your project is awe-inspiring enough to compete at the national level, you can travel across the nation to the National Leadership Conference host city, which changes every year.

2

CREATE

Create your display and your speech.  This is where most of the time and effort come into play.  You want your displays to be neat and interesting and your speech to be flawless.

3

COMPETE
