FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES

Why should you take an FCS class or be an FCCLA member?

FCS and FCCLA provide students with skills for life.

Family and consumer sciences education teaches these standards:

1: Integrate multiple life roles and responsibilities in family, work, and community settings.

2: Evaluate management practices related to the human, economic, and
environmental resources.

3: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in consumer services.

4: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in early
childhood, education, and services.

5: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in facilities management and maintenance.

6: Evaluate the significance of family and its effects on the well being of individuals and society.

7: Synthesize knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in family and community services.

8: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in food
production and services.

9: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in food science, dietetics, and nutrition.

10: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in hospitality, tourism, and recreation.

11: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in housing and interior design.

12: Analyze factors that influence human growth and development.

13: Demonstrate respectful and caring relationships in the family, workplace, and community.

14: Demonstrate nutrition and wellness practices that enhance individual and family well-being

15: Evaluate the impact of parenting roles and responsibilities on strengthening the well being of individuals and families.

16: Integrate knowledge, skills, and practices required for careers in textiles and apparel.

As you can see, life skills are taught in FCS class rooms. Skills such as how to buy a home and decorate it, how to spend and save money, how to raise a child, how to maintain a healthy relationship, and how to cook healthy, cost effective meals for your family.

FCCLA teaches students 8 purposes:

1. To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.

2. To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.

3. To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.

4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.

5. To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.

6. To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.

7. To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today’s society.

8. To promote family and consumer sciences and related occupations.

These purposes are here to show us how being part of FCCLA can help out in our future lives. They combine the essentials of living a successful life, which everyone needs to know.
